Legendary Lincoln County Sheriff who shot and killed Billy the Kid on the night of July 14th 1881. The cause of Pats death has been highly controversial. Four suspects have been named. His death certificate states he was shot by rancher Jesse Wayne Brazel. But four other suspects include Carl Adamson, W.W. "Bill" Cox, a fella named Rhodes and possibly Jim Miller (Killer Jim Miller "The Deacon" who is considered the wild wests first professional gun for hire) have been named. In any case Pat Garrett was murdered. All over some land leases and cattle disputes.
